Coyotes are also known for being clever and for their extraordinary sense of sight, smell, and hearing.

The Appearance of the Ohio Coyotes

The size of the Lake County coyote is about the same as the medium-sized dog. They are generally smaller when compared to wolves reaching an average of 34 inches. Their tail will contribute an additional 16 inches to their overall length. They can weigh at least 20 lbs or a maximum of 50lbs. They have a gray fur coat but can also be brown, tan, or white contingent upon the place they live. The coyotes that established their habitat in the mountainous region will have darker fur compared to those that are found in the desert.

Habitat

Coyotes can be found in different parts of North America. They will be roaming in various land terrains such as open fields, deserts, mountains, and forests of Mexico, US, and Canada. There are even coyotes that can survive in areas with tropical climate. Humans have been moving towards the countryside. The coyotes have also adapted to the life close to humans. This helps them easily look for food. It has been more common to encounter coyotes in major cities such as Los Angeles and New York.

Behavior

The coyotes are not social creatures and will use their urine when marking their territory. Nonetheless, they will hunt with their pack. They will be taking turns when they are pursuing their target until their energy depletes. They may also drive their target towards the other member of the pack for an ambush. They will mostly sleep on daytime and look for food at night. This is why you will often hear them howling during nighttime. They can produce other noises as form of communication. They can create at least three unique calls.

Diet

Coyotes will not be picky with regards to the things that they eat. They will eat small prey such as Ohio frogs, fish, rabbits, and rodents and larger animals like deer. Their natural diet will be composed of 90% mammals. Some people think that they will only eat meat. However, the coyotes are omnivores and will mix vegetation in their diet. If there are no meats to eat, they will consume grass, fruits, and insects. They will also love the taste of snakes. There are also records when coyotes will attack pets and livestock. When in the urban communities, the coyotes will rummage our garbage.

The breeding season of this Lake County animal will occur on the month of February to March. Gestation period will last for about 63 days. The mother coyote will deliver 3-12 puppies. Compared to other wild creatures, both mother and father will be responsible in rearing the young ones.
